Fools and their money

A politically incorrect kernel from Daily Reckoning:
When poor people get money it is usually dumb money. They don’t know what to do with it. So, they do dumb things. That’s why they’re poor. They pay more than they should…often for things that aren’t worth buying at all. Fancy cars…fancy houses…fancy restaurants… They think the idea is to get rid of money. Usually, they part company with their loot quickly…and they’re poor again.
People think the rich are different. They think the rich are smart about money. But very often, it ain’t so.
Wall Street is a sophisticated industry. It has developed products that appeal to every taste and every budget. It’s good at separating the poor and middle classes from their money; they put their dough into mutual funds and Facebook shares. They’re even better at separating the rich from their money. Why? The rich have more money to lose.

A capital idea

In case any of the well-heeled among you care for some volatility and excitement in the coming weeks, the annual descent of fools and their money has hit Vegas, in the form of WSOP.

I'll be grinding away at middle-stakes games to pay the bills, but if anyone cares to back a riskier venture--i.e. higher cash games--I would oblige.  Email me if interested.

Color me reviewed

This the path of my BFR from today, as recorded by my phone.  (BFR is biennial flight review, for you white people.)  You can see the takeoff from Runway 35L at Henderson, some drunken maneuvers over the desert followed by a series of donuts at the Boulder City airport, then utter confusion and uncertainty as we had to shake a DHS plane.

This stuff was a lot simpler back in '98.

Hallo

A few months ago I started putting out a bird feeder with an agave-water mixture, hoping to draw hummingbirds.  For some reason all I've gotten are finches.

Then yesterday, with the winds blasting, I found this guy hunkered in a pine tree.

Do something selfish

Among the content recently added for free streaming on Amazon Prime: "Forks Over Knives."

The jacket blurb from Roger Ebert is no exaggeration--this movie could very well save your life.  Has the government been lying for decades about the health "benefits" of dairy and meat products?  The un-shocking answer lies within.

Two of the interesting points: 1) Cancer cells in many cases depend on animal protein for growth.  Shut off the animal products and you shut off the cancer. 2) Countries with high milk consumption have higher rates of osteoporosis, not lower.  This is the exact opposite of what your bribe-driven government scientists have been telling you.

I am grateful to my brother for long ago influencing me to stop eating most animal products--and more recently for recommending this film.  Watch it and tell your friends, like your life depended on it.
